Sorting: Collect a variety of small objects (erasers, coins, counters, buttons, etc.) and place them in various caches. Once students find the caches, they return to the classroom to examine and discuss the content of the caches, determining different ways to sort the items inside. Older students can use a graphing program to create a graph representing the items inside the cache based on the category in which they decided to sort the items. Create a Graph is a free web-based graphic tool.

Money: Scan or find photos of currency from around the world. Place the currency in caches. Once students find the caches, they return to the classroom to identify the currencies and find the exchange rate for each currency in US dollars using an online currency converter. A more specific lesson can be found on my blog post from 3/22/09.
